EDINBURG
'OLE TIME FESTIVAL
Edinburg,
VA, Sept. 21-23
 |
On the third
Friday of each September, this sleepy little town, nestled along US-11
(Exit 279 on I-81), comes alive with the Festival of music, arts,
crafts, parade, entertainment and great food. The best part of the
Festival, though, is their people. Their theme is that of another time.
A time when things moved a little slower, a time when people took the
time to visit with each other, but most of all, a time when everybody
enjoyed the life they had and the friends they shared. |
Events kick
off at 5:30 Friday evening with the Opening Ceremony, followed by the
popular community Sing-A-Long and a street dance featuring country string
music and dancing in front of the old school.
Crafters
open up all over town, food vendors fill the air with delicious aromas, and
entertainment kicks off on 3 different stages. A big kite fest takes place
all day behind the old school and a 2-day Festival for Children under 12
takes place on Main Street (US-11) in the North end of Town. The annual
"March Through Town" Parade gets underway at 1 PM and, in addition to bands
and floats, you will see antique cars, tractors, motorcycles, clowns and
lots of surprises. A big free concert on the school lawn, starting at 5:30,
featuring 3 popular musical groups, is the highlight for the evening —and is
followed by a Nifty-Fifties Sock Hop in the school gym, with the team from
WSVG.
The
Old-Timers baseball game gets underway at 1 at the Town Park, followed by
the popular Bed Race at 3 (on Piccadilly Street) and the Duck Race at 4:30.
The Closing Ceremony is at 5:30 at St. John's Methodist Church.
Everything
is free, except what you purchase to eat or from crafters. This is truly a
jam-packed family-oriented weekend, now in its 27th year, that truly
provides something for everyone.
