24th Annual Mountain Glory Festival

Marion, North Carolina - Celebrating Small-town Living in the Mountains

October 13, 2007, 9:30 am – 5:00 p.m.

On Saturday, October 13, the 24th Annual Mountain Glory Festival will celebrate the arrival of autumn in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The festival covers the courthouse lawn and two blocks of Main Street in Marion.  Browsers and shoppers looking for original handicrafts or homespun enjoyment will find plenty of choice among more than 100 artists, crafters and food booths and a wide variety of entertainment, from traditional Bluegrass to haunting melodies Native American music.

Besides mainstays of music and craft, the festival offers glimpses into local and regional pastimes, such as the Mt Glory Quilt Show, 4-H Fair Day, foot races and two stages of area talent.  Addis Chapel Gospel Choir is an annual favorite.

One of the most popular areas at the festival each year is the “Children’s Arena”, that provides hands-on activities, a best-dressed pet show and special entertainment for kids.

Fall colors begin to appear in the higher elevations around this time of year.  Those who linger for the weekend will find more to do on Sunday, such as a picnic at Lake James State Park; museum-hopping among three sites featuring minerals, pioneer and Indian settlement history and early railroad days; panning for gold; exploring the underground of Linville Caverns; or a scenic ride along the Blue Ridge Parkway and visit the working Orchard at Altapass.

The festival is sponsored by the City of Marion.  For festival information visit www.mtngloryfestival.com  or call 828-652-3551 or 828-652-2215.For more information on lodging and visitor services, call McDowell Tourism Development, 888-233-6111.
