Virginia in October!

Come to Virginia in October to sample crisp apples, see the history of America come alive, enjoy some “spooky” fun and watch as brilliant fall colors wash across the state.

Visit Central Virginia for the Apple Butter Makin’ Festival; and enjoy apple pies, apple butter and apple dumplings during the Apple Dumpling Festival in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Enjoy spectacular fall foliage in the Blue Ridge Highlands while you watch apple butter and molasses being made at the Whitetop Mountain Molasses Festival.

Continue the celebration of America’s 400th Anniversary by Digging into History at Claytor Lake State Park. Visit an 18th-century market fair and meet skilled Colonial tradesmen during America’s First Frontier in the Heart of Appalachia. Travel back to the 1770s for Duffield’s Frontier Harvest Celebration, and watch more than 150 military re-enactors in the Historic Triangle during Prelude to Victory: Washington Prepares for Yorktown.

Ride through a forest of fear during the Haunted Harvest Hayride at Staunton River Battlefield. For more scares, take an after-dark tour of Professor Cline’s Haunted Monster Museum during HALLOWSCREAM! at Natural Bridge.

In Northern Virginia, thrill to steeplechase racing at the International Gold Cup, and cheer other contestants on horseback at the National Jousting Championships in Aldie. Go for a spin or just watch the fun at Staunton’s Shenandoah Fall Foliage Bike Festival.
