Abingdon, VA'S Plumb Alley Festival a MUST SEE
This year celebrates Memorial Day weekend in historic Abingdon, as the
Plumb Alley Day festival marks its 23rd year on Saturday, May 28, 2005.
The Kiwanis Club of Abingdon started Plumb Alley Day in 1983. It began as a
very small festival composed mostly of alley residents and local artists
to provide community awareness and to provide a park like atmosphere
within the town. Although it cannot be proven, Daniel Boone must have
walked Plumb Alley since he spent nights on Wolf Hill that the alley
passes through.
Traditionally, this festival is held on the Saturday of Memorial Day
weekend. This years date is May 28th from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Approximately 175 purveyors of arts, crafts, antiques, yard sale items and
a wide variety of foods will be available and live music and entertainment
will be furnished. Special features for children will include free
balloons, face painting, and a sidewalk art contest.
