It was a sure sign of spring in this part of the country - folks got ready to shear the sheep, prepare the wool and say good-bye to winter for another season.

The ninth annual Wooly Day celebration takes place at Rocky Mount Museum on Saturday, May 17, from 10 to 5. This event features the gentle expertise of sheep-herding dogs, the rare craft of hand-shearing sheep, spinning, gunsmithing, and much more.

It’s a rare opportunity to revisit spring chores, the way they used to be. This time, you get to watch!
