THIS
LAKESIDE EVENT HAS IT ALL! A
day at the
lake always takes top position on the list of summer
“to do’s”. When
that day includes history, nostalgia, great food, quality crafts AND the
lake, it becomes a “must do”.
The Smith Mountain Lake Antique and Classic Boat Show in Central
Virginia is a must do event. The 14th annual in-water show will be held on Saturday,
August 14th at Saunders Parkway Marina in Huddleston, VA. Located on route 626, only 3 miles from the Smith Mountain
Lake State Park, this site provides a panoramic view of the lake and ample
room to display the scores of antique boats and cars.
Collectors from all over the country will travel to Smith Mountain
Lake (SML) to view and/or participate in this nationally known event.
Attendees
are part of the action as antique cars and wooden boats compete in a
variety of categories for top show prize and the People‚s Choice‚
award. Restoration is the
goal in this alluring hobby of craftsmen.
Many of the boats and vehicles displayed have a fascinating history
which owners are pleased to share. Some
of the boats and vehicles were saved from the final stages of
deterioration. It’s amazing
how years of neglect can be carefully sanded, filled, repainted away with
spectacular results. When
asked what the motivation is, many reply... Memories.
There’s
something for everyone at the antique boat show.
Visitors are reminded to bring their camera. Aside from the
spectacular workmanship and interesting antique models, the scenery from
this site is incredible. Children and adults alike will enjoy a bird’s
eye‚ view from a colorful antique replica carrousel which comes to life
for the show each year. Children
can take part in the craft of boat building as they build and paint their
own wood boat and sail it in a safe, specially constructed pool.
The boats are free for each child to take home as a souvenir of the
event. In addition, there are
plenty of great food and quality craft vendors to appeal to all tastes and
interests. The 14th Annual
Antique and Classic Boat Show is a must do‚ Smith Mountain Lake event
which will delight the family and perhaps inspire some creativity. For
