Rockhounds Gather at
35th Annual Macon County Gemboree 2000 |
The 35th annual Gemboree will take place in the Macon County Community Building,
located off of Hwy 441 South in Franklin, North Carolina. The show begins on July 26 and
continues through July 29, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. There is a small admission fee of
$2 for adults; children 12 and under are free. There will be door prizes, dealers
exhibits, jewelry making and selling of books and supplies.
The Gemboree, known as "Rock Hound's Gathering of the Clans," is co-sponsored
by the Gem & Mineral Society of Franklin, which carefully selects each dealer and
arranges for special displays. Each day there will be demonstrations of cabachoning, bead
stringing, wire wrapping, faceting and gift box making by the members of the Franklin Gem
and Mineral Society.
Twenty-four of the finest gem dealers in the country will exhibit their products, some
below retail! The exhibits consist of fossils, minerals, cut gems, collectibles and
natural uncut gems.
The Franklin Gem & Mineral Society is made up of 125 members who volunteer their
time May 1 through October 31 to keep the Franklin Gem & Mineral Museum functioning.
The museum is open to the public with free admission!
After you finish 'gemboreeing," stop in at the museum and have a look!
